The recent hurricanes off of the eastern coast of Florida have had an effect on the sea surface temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico. The surface waters have not had a chance to settle creating a homogenous temperature throughout the entire water basin that ranges between 83-87°F.
The sea surface temperature off of the coast of Pamlico Sound is currently 83-85°F. The temperature along the coast of North and South Carolina is currently 81-83°F. The Gulf Stream has created a warm water front off the coast of the Carolinas. This warm water front is carrying sea surface temperatures between 84-86°F.
